Thank you to all who have celebrated the bounty of the South Coast with us each Tuesday for the past 25 weeks. Today is the 26th week of the Old Rochester Farmers' Market, and we are excited for a beautiful Autumn day to enjoy while we come together fro 3-6:30 at the ORRJHS to offer our community the wonderful local foods grown and produced right in your backyard. You don't want the season to end? Consider stalking up on the items you enjoy when you shop today. Peppers are super easy to chop and freeze for the winter time, and butternut squashes will do well in a pantry or closet. It can be very easy to store foods, and doesn't have to include canning (although, canning is a great way, too). Just because you have to wait until the Spring to see the market again, doesn't mean you can't enjoy the market. Cervelli Farm (Conventional, Rochester) Produce, Flowers
Cervelli Farm, out of Rochester, brings along great produce. Every week their tent is busy, providing Old Rochester Farmers' Market shoppers with the bounty of summer. Cervelli Farm will be at this week's market with their infamous corn. Also available are greens, yellow squash and zucchini, tomato plants, zinnias and more.

Engelnook Farm (Pesticide-free, Rochester) Farm fresh eggs, Great Hill Blue Cheese, Narragansett Creamery Cheeses and Yogurt, Llama Manure
Engelnook Farm has a colorful variety of vegetables and greens for that summer salad you were planning. The lemon drop cucumbers are delicious in salads. Perhaps a hard boiled egg to top it off? Engelnook's chickens are humanely raised with space to roam and excellent care. Also available under the Engelnook umbrella are Narragansett's cheeses, which are delectable--their smoked mozzarella gets rave reviews.

J. H. Beaulieu Livestock and Produce Farm (Naturally grown field raised beef, chicken, eggs Fairhaven)
With all the reports that naturally raised, farm fresh meat is superior nutritionally and for its quality, Beaulieu Farm is committed to meeting these standards. This week Joe will be fully stocked with all beef cuts. Pork cuts will also be available this week--ham, sausage and bacon, as well as lamb.

It is already Week 25 of the Old Rochester Farmers' Market. Hard to believe it has almost been a half-year of celebrating some of the best that the South Coast has to offer in local foods. This week is no exception. We are gathering at the Old Rochester Junior High School from 3-6:30 pm with an amazing array of locally grown fruits and vegetables, breads and treats, meats and cheeses, jams and jellies, honey and seasonings, soaps and clothing, and doggie treats and doggie beds, too! This market offers that all important around the perimeter of the grocery store shopping, with some wonderful in the aisle items, as well. The Old Rochester Farmers' Market is a great way to get that shopping done, while keeping your purchases local--a great way to help preserve the beautiful South Coast landscape we all love. By supporting your local farmer, you are helping them keep their land agricultural, and not forcing them to sell it for development. Thank you for coming out to the ORFM to support local agriculture.

What a fun season it has been! Already week 24 of a 26 week market. Over that last few weeks, many people have commented that they can't believe how quickly it has gone by. Available at the market this week are pumpkins, gourds, apples and squashes for all of your seasonal cooking. Cheeses, breads, and meats abound as well to round out your meals. The summer season is winding down, and as the children head back to school it is time to prepare for the months ahead. The farmers' are ready to help you get ready for winter with heirloom tomatoes for canning, eggplant for roasting and freezing, and peppers to dice and freeze. It looks like we are in for gorgeous weather tomorrow. Come along and join us between 3-6pm at the Old Rochester Regional Junior High School for a wonderful afternoon of live music, shopping, and chatting with the neighbor. As always there will be a colorful assortment of summer's bounty available for you to select from. While last week was How on Earth's last week, we have a new vendor The A1 Pickle Company joining us. Stop by Alberto's tent and say hello. Try a sample of his delicious pickles while you are there--good stuff. This will be Green Feather Herb's last week at the Market, as this husband and wife team have to return to work, they are both school teachers. Be sure to stock up on their all natural bug spray and their herbal teas this week. You are able to purchase their products online in the off market season.

October 19th's Market has a great deal to offer. There will be plenty of butternut squash, potatoes, and produce for you to stock up on for the winter. It is time to chop and freeze all of the delicious vegetables our local farmers have been growing for us, so that we can get through the winter months. There will also be plenty of pumpkins for pumpkin pie, stuffed pumpkin, or for jack-o-lantern fun.

Fall Harvest is Here...

This week's farmers' market will amaze you with just how much produce continues to be available straight from your local farmers. The stars of the show this week will be the beautiful pumpkins, butternut squash, and mums.

As always, there will be great music, llamas and yummy food for you to bring home and nourish your families with. We will be there having great fun from 3-6pm at the Old Rochester Regional Junior High School.

Besides the wonderful produce you have come to expect at the Old Rochester Farmers' Market, this week features storyteller extraordinaire Jackson Gillman from 3:45-4:45. Jackson's performances are captivating and humorous. Bring your children and take in a show, pet a llama, and get your grocery shopping done. What a fantastic afternoon.

To help you with your grocery shopping, there will be local farmers, bakers, and jam makers on hand. Fall arrives Thursday, and we will have mums, pumpkins, and gourds for your equinox celebrating.

This weeks market participants include:

Farms

Lucky Field Organics (Rochester) with their delicious organically grown produce and heirloom varieties.

Engelnook Rescue Farm (Rochester, pesticide-free) with farm fresh eggs, vegetables and fruit, Hannabelle's and Great Hill chesses, and as always, Macho the llama.

Dixon Farm (Rochester, mostly pesticide-free--just ask) with a delightful array of produce, pumpkins, grape vine wreaths, dried flowers and cranberries.

Cervelli Farm (Rochester, conventional) will, of course, have their famous corn and so much more.

Tripp Farm (Westport, conventional) will offer great deals on their always fresh produce.

Christine's Flowers (Rochester) will bring along a gorgeous array of mums at an incredibly reasonable price.

School is back in session. There is an autumn chill in the air. That means it is time for mums, pumpkins, squash, and apples! This week at the Old Rochester Farmers' Market you will find all of these fall wonders.

Come be delighted by the music and wide range of instruments played by the Harper and The Minstrel, while getting your grocery shopping done. Stop by and say hello to Macho, our very friendly llama from Engelnook Farm--he'll be happy to receive the attention.

Participating in this weeks market, to help you fill your pantry:

The delicious bounty from our resident organic farm, Lucky Field Organics (Rochester) will be available to you. Lettuce greens, peppers, tomatoes, onions, basil, eggplant, and cucumbers are just some of the wonderful items you can find at Lucky Field's tent. By supporting organic farming, you are reducing your carbon foot print, and reducing the number of chemicals in our groundwater.

Engelnook Farm (Rochester) is a rescue farm, home to llamas, horses, ponies, chickens, and more. They have been bringing to the market two wonderful llamas--children have really been enjoying the opportunity to get up close to these friendly llamas. If you come to the market with a dog, please approach the llamas slowly and gently, as dogs tend to spook these otherwise peaceful creatures. Engelnook has quite the variety to offer market-goers. They have eggs, Great Hill Blue Cheese, summer squash, peppers, zucchini, a few varieties of eggplant (even white eggplant), HOT peppers, and cucumbers to name just some of what you can find at this table. Engelnook Farm practices pesticide-free farming.

Dixon Farm (Rochester), has joined the market with their beautiful cut flowers, pumpkins, squash, red peppers, tomatoes and more. Don't be shy, be sure to welcome the Dixons to the market.

Great Cape Baking Company (Marston Mills) has the amazing ability to bake the most delectable breads. Quick breads, brown breads, sandwich bread--the varieties are endless. Always fresh, always yummy. They also offer you the availability of ordering gluten free baked goods to pick up at next week's market. Stop by this tent to be amazed at how many varieties of bread one baker can conjure.

The Artisan Kitchen (Rochester) serves up super quiches in a few varieties. A great quick meal, these quiches are great for a busy day. Also available are their breads, granola, granola bars, dessert treats, and muffins. A sure crowd pleaser.

Delighted with how delicious their jams are, Al's has earned repeat customers from the Old Rochester Farmers' Market shoppers. Mamma Stella's Cape Cod Seasoning has put in a bottle a seasoning mixture that makes everything from vegetables to steak taste great. Especially good for a quick seasoning for grilled foods, Mamma Stella's seasoning is a must try. It is "Green Week" continued at the Old Rochester Farmers' Market. On the 24th the rain stopped us from truly having our celebration, so we would like to extend it to August 31st.

Lucky Fields offers fantastic organic produce for our "Green Week" celebration. Supporting organic and chemical free farming helps keep fertilizers, pesticides and chemicals out of our groundwater drinking supply. A weekly market shopper recommended a children's book, The Vegetables We Eat by Gail Gibbons. The descriptions and illustrations this book brings the young reader are fantastic. It discusses the various types of vegetables and their characteristics (root, leaf, stem, fruit, flower, bulb, tuber, seed)as well as how they're brought from the field to your table. A good resource for sharing the wonders of vegetables with little ones.

Cervelli Farm (Rochester) has been offering a wide variety of fresh, conventionally grown produce every week. This farm, started in 1965, has been a local favorite for years. Offering their locally famous corn to market customers, they also bring along fresh cut flowers for your table and the vegetables you need to make a delicious meal to put on your table as well.

Bakers:

Great Cape Baking Company (Marston Mills) has the amazing ability to bake the most delectable breads. Quick breads, brown breads, sandwich bread--the varieties are endless. Always fresh, always yummy. They also offer you the availability of ordering gluten free baked goods to pick up at next week's market. Stop by this tent to be amazed at how many varieties of bread one baker can conjure.

The Artisan Kitchen (Rochester) serves up super quiches in a few varieties. A great quick meal, these quiches are great for a busy summer day. Also available are their breads, granola, granola bars, dessert treats, and muffins. A sure crowd pleaser.

Prepared Items:

Dave's Cape Cod Smokehouse (Harwich) just might be the best the Cape has to offer in smoked meat and fish. They have perfected the art of hickory smoking ribs. If you haven't checked out the YouTube video posted on the ORFM fb page, please do. Dave shares his passion for providing you with fantastic food. Each week they bring along fish pates and spreads as well. They are so good, that I've seen numerous children gobbling up the samples. If you struggle to get your children to eat their fish, Dave's smoked fish or pates are a fantastic option for you.

Al's Backwood's Berrie Co. (Plymouth) joined the market two weeks ago, and everyone has been glad they have. Delighted with how delicious their jams are, I actually saw one happy customer walk away with four jars of jam last week. I heard through the grapevine that they were quite glad to share with an eager family. Go on and stop by this table, they will offer you a sample to try--you will be happy you did.

Mamma Stella's Cape Cod Seasoning has put in a bottle a seasoning mixture that makes everything from vegetables to steak taste great. Especially good for a quick seasoning for grilled foods, Mamma Stella's seasoning is a must try. Stop by their table and they will offer you some fresh cut veggies with Mamma Stella's on it and roasted sunflower seeds that have been roasted with the seasoning. Good stuff!

Green Knoll Designs (Rochester) has participated in the market all season long, with their gorgeous handmade jewelry. Each one of a kind piece of jewelry is created using high quality stones, glass, crystals, and metals. Each piece is one of a kind, so no one will ever have the same piece of jewelry as you! Treat yourself, or someone you love to a little special something and know that it was created from the heart by a local artisan.

Herbal Remedies/Body Care:

Green Feather Herbs (Fall River) offers salves, herbal tinctures, facial care, tooth powder, foot cream, herbal bath blends, teas and more all made from organic or wild harvested herbs. Blended by hand by local herbalist Jacqueline Ryan Boissonneau, these products are ecological, sustainable, and good for you, too. One Love Body Care (Adamsville, RI) makes the most adorable soaps in a variety of scents and shapes. Their soaps are all natural, and Diane grows most of the ingredients she uses for her products in her organic garden. Lip balm, hand cream and even doggie and kitty shampoo are products Diane offers to you each week. Also at this table are the Shy Brothers Hannabelle cheeses. Stop by for a sample and then walk away with some delicious cheese.

If you are hungry while shopping, Franky's Franks (Plymouth) is at the market every week with their organic hot dogs. With hot dog stylings like The New Yorker (saurkraut, onions & mustard), Sweet & Spicy (sweet chili pepper sauce w/ onion, mustard & coleslaw), and Coney Con Chili (meat chili, mustard, onions & shreaded cheddar) you are sure to find one that piques your interest. Most of their condiments are made with farm fresh, natural and organic ingredients from local farmers and producers. I look forward to enjoying one this Tuesday.

With so many fantastic vendors participating in the ORFM, there are certainly a plethora of options to finish with! This week's market offers you local, fresh vegetables, fruit, and herbs as well as fresh baked breads, granola, cakes, macaroons, and cupcakes.

...This week, you will see:

Farms:
Lucky Fields Organics (Rochester), with their fantastic organically farmed produce and herbs. Each week they come along with the most beautiful tomatoes, eggplant and squashes. Lucky Fields also offers a great variety of cucumbers to choose from as well. You'll be surprised by how many varieties of cucumber there are. Stop by and see Zack, he'll be sure to help you out with finding great produce for your summertime meals.

Engelnook Farm (Rochester) will be at the market again, with their LLAMAS. That's right, they are bringing their two pet llamas for us to enjoy at the market. Everyone had so much fun last week petting and getting up close to the llamas that they have commanded a repeat performance. Engelnook also offers great produce and fruit. With super spicy hot peppers, squashes, cucumbers, and delicious peaches--you'll be happy with any purchases you make from Engelnook. They also offer Great Hill Blue Cheese and Eggs--both of which they sold out of last week, so stop by this table early.

Tripp Farm (Westport) offers conventionally grown tomatoes, eggplant, cucumbers, squashes and zucchini, potatoes, cucumbers and more. Gorgeous, potted hydrangeas and pink diamonds are also available for your garden. This vendor sells their produce by the plate, so you are certain to find value with your purchases at this table. Walter does a great job of keeping the table stocked for you.

Cervelli Farm (Rochester) is absolutely a local favorite. Known for their corn, they also bring to the market beets, green beans, cucumbers, potatoes, a variety of greens and soooo much more! Every week they bring beautiful fresh cut flowers with the most vibrant colors. They sold out of their corn last week, so this is another table that you want to visit early.

Bakers:
Cape Cod Baking Co. (Harwich) has started venturing off the Cape to offer the Tri-town area their wonderful, fresh baked breads. Try the Canadian Brown Bread--my loaf didn't make it past lunch on Wednesday! The whole family gobbled it right up. They offer an incredible variety of bread. Jalapeno, Vermont Cheddar, Chocolate Chip Zucchini, Cinnamon Swirl, Cranberry Orange, Rosemary--and that is just to name a few from a long list. Be amazed by how many variety of breads are possible.

Everyone in the Tri-town knows about the delicious treats and breads The Artisan Kitchen (Rochester) skillfully makes. The garlic stuffed bread is made from fresh garlic and butter, which is the key to why it is so wonderful. Breads, quiches, granola, macaroons and more...

Prepared Foods:
If you are hungry while at the market, stop by our hot dog vendor, Franky's Frank's (Plymouth). The hot dogs Franky's offers are of the highest quality. They offer nitrate-free organic hot dogs, veggie hot dogs, as well as conventional hot dogs. Their are a number of different styling you can order up as well. I enjoyed the New Yorker this week, with a little Jalapeno jam on it, too. Good stuff!

Dave's Cape Cod Smokehouse (Harwich) was such a hit at last week's market. Everyone enjoyed their super yummy smoked fishes and meats. One very happy customer enjoyed a fresh, pulled-pork sandwich. I overheard them consider going back for a second sandwich. While I'm not sure of the outcome, I was glad to know that they enjoyed the sandwich that much. I brought home some Cod Cakes, which my family thought were delicious. We are glad Dave's Smokehouse has joined the market, and know you will be, too.

Come join us for a perfect summer day at the Farmers' Market. Bring along your reuseable shopping bag, and fill it up with the wonderful produce the market abounds with.

Participating this week are a variety of vendors to bring you the best of what the area has to offer.

For local farmers:
Lucky Fields Organics (Rochester), with a large variety of organic produce--including eggplant, tomatoes, broccoli, fava beans, carrots, parsnips, pea greens and more.

Englenook Farm (Rochester) will be at this week's market for the first time. Englenook is a rescue farm that takes in animals. We are so pleased they are joining us at the market. Be sure to stop by their table to find out more about what they do. They will have produce, EGGS, herbs and Great Hill Blue Cheese.

As always, Cervelli Farm (Rochester, conventional) will bring along their famous corn--but they will also have fresh cut flowers, green beans, beets, potatoes, squashes, and more. Their flowers are absolutely gorgeous--the zinnias have the most incredible colors.

Tripp Farm (Westport, conventional) will have available for you peppers, potatoes, eggplant, summer squash and zucchini, and beautiful potted plants (pink ladies and hyacinths).

The Artisan Kitchen (Rochester), will keep you well stocked with fresh baked breads, brownies, granola bars, cookies, pies, quiches, garlic bread and so much more. Stop by early--before they sell out!

July 6, 2010 from 3-7pm the Old Rochester Farmers' Market will have its second market!

The first market was a great success, and as a result we are looking forward to this Tuesday's market with happy anticipation.

Participating in the second market will be Lucky Fields Organics with a wide variety of organic produce, Hickory Knoll Farm with their pesticide free produce, Engelnook Farm which is a rescue farm in Rochester that also farms pesticide free produce. Cervelli Farm, a conventional farm in Rochester, will participate in this week's market with their corn! What is summer without corn?

The always delicious breads and treats of the Artisan Kitchen will be available for you. Beginning on July 13th the Great Cape Bakery will also be participating in our market.

Local artisan, Cynthia Lawrence of Green Knoll Designs, will be at the market with her handmade jewelry. Within Organics will also be at the market again with their stylish organic cotton clothing.

If you are hungry while at the market, Franky's Franks will offer you their tasty nitrate-free hot dogs and yummy gelato.

The "New" Old Rochester Farmers' Market opens June 29th at Old Rochester Regional School.

This vibrant market will offer local organic or pesticide free produce. Lucky Fields Organic Farm (Rochester), and Hickory Knoll Pesticide-Free Farm (Lakeville) will all be participating. Engelnook Rescue Farm (Rochester) will also participate monthly.

There will be delectable treats from the Artisan Kitchen, as well as local artisans.
