May 31, 2011 Old Rochester Farmers' Market


This week's market promises to be the best yet! With so many fantastic participants, you are sure to walk away a happy shopper. Don't forget those re-usable shopping bags...there will be plenty to bring home. After a long weekend, we will all need to re-stock.

Participating in this weeks market:

Allen Farm (Organic, Westport) Fresh Greenhouse Grown Greens (pea greens, salad greens), Potted Herbs (rosemary, sage, basil, cilantro... to name a few) and Tomatoes for your Home Garden

Engelnook Farm (Pesticide-free, Rochester) Farm fresh eggs, Kale, Chives, Great Hill Blue Cheese, Narragansett Creamery Cheeses and Yogurt, Llama Manure--ask Joanie about the benefits of llama manure for your home garden, she'll be happy to let you know how wonderful this stuff is for your garden.

J. H. Beaulieu Livestock and Produce Farm (Naturally grown field raised beef, Fairhaven) You have a cut you like...they have it.

Lucky Field Organics (Organic, Rochester) Root vegetables (parsnips), Vegetable starts (an assortment of greens--lettuce, swiss chard, collards, kale; sunflowers; a variety of tomatoes), Potted flowers, Fresh Cut Herbs (cilantro, thyme, basil) and Greens (Pea Greens, Salad Greens, Lovage) If you don't see what you are looking for--ask, they may have it back at the farm.

Lobster/Fish:

Drake Lobsters (Marion, MA) Jarrett goes out and gets these lobsters, Black Sea Bass and Scup on Tuesday and then brings them fresh to the market. There is absolutely nothing like fresh caught. These are top quality. The Black Sea Bass was an incredible lunch this week. Thanks for joining us, Jarrett.

Bakeries:

Gail's Goodies (Mattapoisett, MA) Rolls, pastries, cookies, and cupcakes abound. The Boston Creme cupcakes look delicious. They are on the "Try" list for this week.

Great Cape Baking Co. (Marston Mills, MA) Fresh baked breads, Breadsticks--All breads are fresh baked. There a variety of delicious quick breads and sandwich breads. The Cheese sticks are a favorite amongst children.

Rein's Real Rye (Waquoit, MA) Fresh Baked Traditional Rye Bread--If you haven't checked out this amazing Rye Bread yet, you absolutely must. It is fantastic. Rein is always happy to share a sample. Stop by this table for yours.

The Artisan Kitchen (Rochester, MA) Fresh Baked Breads, Brownies, Cookies, and more...I have heard rave reviews about their lemon squares and brownies--Yum.

Value Added Foods:

Al's Backwood's Berrie Co. (Plymouth, MA) Fresh Jams and Jellies, Raw Honey. Al always offer you a sample of his great, locally made jams and jellies. Sweet and delicious. Handmade by Al himself. You are sure to find a flavor that matches your whim--Rum Raspberry, Strawberry, Blueberry, Jalapeno, and more.

Dave's Cape Cod Smokehouse (Harwich, MA) Fresh smoked meats and fish, Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Cod Cake Sandwiches. The pates made by Dave are incredible. A perfect before dinner treat, or for entertaining. The smoked ribs are mouth watering. A great way to pick up a ready to go protein for dinner.

Eat Your Vegetables! Pasta Sauce (Dartmouth, MA) If you struggle with getting picky eaters to eat their veggies, this is the pasta sauce for you. Stop by the table to taste a sample. We are sure you will like it so much, you will take a jar home.


Other Necessities:

Go Fetch! Treats (Westport, MA) Fresh Baked Doggie Treats. Your canine will be so glad you stopped by this table. With real food ingredients, you know your pup will be eating treats that not only taste good, but are actually good for your dog, too.

SoBerry Clean (Bourne, MA) Organic Soapberries and Felted Wool Dryer Balls. Get that laundry clean without polluting the environment.

The Willow Grove (Fall River, MA) Handcrafted Soaps and Aromatherapy Products, Tye Die Shirts. Quality handmade soaps that last are found at this table, as well as sugar scrubs, eye pillows, and an assortment of some funky and fun tie dyes.

Special Guests:

Students Organizing for Labor Equality (SOLE, ORRHS) This Old Rochester Regional High School Group is joining us for the week to raise awareness for buying fair trade soccer balls. They will offer some homemade baked goods as a fundraiser to raise money so that they can purchase fair trade made soccer balls for the soccer program. We applaud them for taking action.
