September 25, 2012 Old Rochester Farmers' Market

Pumpkins abound at the ORFM

It is Week 17 of the Old Rochester Farmers' Market, and we are super excited that Autumn has officially arrived.  That means Fall Crops are here, yet because Autumn has only just begun we can still enjoy some of summer's bounty.  There is such an amazing variety available to us as a result.  Come along to the market to find (and freeze or can) the last of summer deliciousness.  There will be eggplant, peppers, squashes, beans, tomatoes and cucumbers all ready for you to put up for the winter.  Also at the market, there will be the most delicious pumpkins, butternut squash, acorn squash, apples, leeks and turnips, too!

Winter squashes, pumpkins, and apples are in at Cervelli Farm.  Scott will have crates of apples for you to choose from.  Applesauce, apple pie, apple crumble, apple bread--the possibilities are endless.  Making a batch of delicious applesauce and then freezing or canning it will ensure that you have some of that wonderful sweetness this winter.  This week, Scott will also have available tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, summer squash, zucchini, cucumbers, and eggplant.

Al's Backwood's Berrie Co., Plymouth, MA
Each week it is a new surprise over at Al's tent.  Al delights in creating new and visually appealing jams and jellies.  The apple pie, blueberry rhubarb and jalepeno pepper have been some of the favorites this season.  Do not be fooled into thinking these jams are only for toast--we've used them for fish, fruit spreads for pancakes or french toast, and the classic pb&j.  Each week Al also has raw, local honey, too.

Liv a Little, Rochester, MA
Chocolate Nachos made fresh in Rochester.  Varieties include Sunflower Seed, Toffee and Pecan.  Sarah's chocolate nachos are not your average dessert.
