August 14, 2012 Old Rochester Farmers' Market

 Week Eleven of the Old Rochester Farmers' market brings you fresh made pasta, delicious olive oil, and the best bounty of vegetables any home cook dreams of....there is a fabulous summertime meal already!  Come along to the market between 3-7pm tomorrow to discover what wonderful ingredients you can find for all your culinary adventures this week.  Don't forget your re-usable shopping bags.

This week offers:
 
Allen Farms, Westport, MA Certified Organic
Allen Farms brings a variety of greenhouse greens, herbs, fresh cut lavender and potted herbs.  Zucchini, zephyr summer squash and mild spice peppers will also be at the market with Deb this week.  Looking for something new to grill?  The mild spice peppers are wonderful for kabobs or grilled whole for some lovely flare to your BBQ meal.  The zephyr summer squash also add some lovely color to a grilled vegetable medley. 

Cervelli Farm, Rochester, MA Conventional

Peaches...these wonderful summer delights are ripe and ready over in Rochester at Cervelli Farm.  Pick some up tomorrow for peach pie, peach cobbler, peach jam, or just for a wonderful hot day treat.  This week, Scott will have available tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, summer squash, zucchini, butta squash, cucumbers, and eggplant.

Engelnook Farm, Rochester, MA Pesticide-Free
Eggs, Narragansett Creamery Cheeses, kale, swiss chard and meats available for order can all be found at the Engelnook tent. This week Joanie is featuring Great Hill Blue Cheese, Narragansett Creamery's Vanilla Yogurt, Strawberry Yogurt, and Queso Blanco (latin farmer's cheese).

J.H. Beaulieu, Fairhaven, MA Hormone-Free
Humanely raised, hormone free meats are available from Beaulieu Farm.  Each week, Joe drives his trailer to the market with a variety of beef and pork cuts.  Stop on in to find out which cuts are available this week.

Skinny Dip Farm, Westport, MA Certified Organic
The crop diversity at Skinny Dip Farm is impressive and delightful.  You can expect to see carrots, beets, golden beets, lettuce, turnips, peaches, tomatoes, okra, fava beans, basil, cilanto, garlic, onions, zucchini, summer squash, cucumbers, artichokes and eggplant--as well as fresh cut flowers.  Hannah's produce is top quality.  Stop on by to see what she has special this week.

Gail bakes all day on Tuesday to bring you a wonderful assortment of fresh bread, muffins, scones, delicious treats and prepared food items as well.

Mama Stella's in the Stella's family recipe for seasoning.  A versatile seasoning, it can be used for vegetables, meats, fishes, eggs--anything, really.  If you are curious, try a sample.

This olive oil is produced from California olives, which means it is a high quality olive oil from right here in the states--how lucky for us.  Extra-virgin, organic olive oil is now available at the market!

Joining us this year is Simpson Spring.  They make their own sodas from water they source from their spring.  The orange soda includes so much real orange--it is like drinking carbonated orange juice.  Ask for a sample, you'll be glad you did.  Bottled spring water from their private spring is available, too.

The Southcoast VNA is holding a butterfly release on September 15, 2012 as a way to help local families honor and remember their loved ones.  From their website: "Activities will include musical performances, inspirational readings, activities for children and families, raffle and a live butterfly release. Light refreshments will be served."  Their volunteers will be at the market to give information about the event, as well as collecting donations to release butterflies.
