September 25, 2012 Old Rochester Farmers' Market

Pumpkins abound at the ORFM

It is Week 17 of the Old Rochester Farmers' Market, and we are super excited that Autumn has officially arrived.  That means Fall Crops are here, yet because Autumn has only just begun we can still enjoy some of summer's bounty.  There is such an amazing variety available to us as a result.  Come along to the market to find (and freeze or can) the last of summer deliciousness.  There will be eggplant, peppers, squashes, beans, tomatoes and cucumbers all ready for you to put up for the winter.  Also at the market, there will be the most delicious pumpkins, butternut squash, acorn squash, apples, leeks and turnips, too!



Participating this week:

Cervelli Farm, Rochester, MA Conventional
Winter squashes, pumpkins, and apples are in at Cervelli Farm.  Scott will have crates of apples for you to choose from.  Applesauce, apple pie, apple crumble, apple bread--the possibilities are endless.  Making a batch of delicious applesauce and then freezing or canning it will ensure that you have some of that wonderful sweetness this winter.  This week, Scott will also have available tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, summer squash, zucchini, cucumbers, and eggplant.


Engelnook Farm, Rochester, MA Pesticide-Free
Eggs, Narragansett Creamery Cheeses, fresh dill and meats available for order can all be found at the Engelnook tent. This week Joanie is featuring garden fresh salsa, delicious pickles and sweet heat pepper jam.  Also available are chicks, pullets and layers to bring home for your own backyard chicken experience.

Beaulieu's Beef
Humanely raised, hormone free meats are available from Beaulieu Farm.  Each week, Joe drives his trailer to the market with a variety of beef and pork cuts.  Stop on in to find out which cuts are available this week.

Skinny Dip Farm, Westport, MA Certified Organic
This week, Skinny Dip Farm brings organic watermelon, eggplant, peppers, summer squash, flowers, tomatoes, salad greens, and onions.  New fall crops like potatoes, leeks, winter squash, turnips will be at this week's market, too.  Lots of good stuff!  This week Hannah will bring along to the market IPM (low spray) apples.

Each week it is a new surprise over at Al's tent.  Al delights in creating new and visually appealing jams and jellies.  The apple pie, blueberry rhubarb and jalepeno pepper have been some of the favorites this season.  Do not be fooled into thinking these jams are only for toast--we've used them for fish, fruit spreads for pancakes or french toast, and the classic pb&j.  Each week Al also has raw, local honey, too.

Chocolate Nachos made fresh in Rochester.  Varieties include Sunflower Seed, Toffee and Pecan.  Sarah's chocolate nachos are not your average dessert.

September 18, 2012 Old Rochester Farmers' Market


While we should be open until 7pm, as most of you know there is a curfew in the Town of Mattapoisett.  So, we will be closing up shop at 6pm today.  So come along between 3 and 6pm to stock up on the most amazing and delicious local foods.  There will be a wide variety to choose from this week--both summer crops and fall crops are available, so it makes for fun and colorful shopping. Especially as the Pumpkins are here!  Pick up a few to celebrate the fact that this Saturday is the First Day of Autumn.

Also joining us this week is our favorite purveyor of made in the US olive oil and balsamic vinegar, Omega Olive Oil from Kingston.  Wonderful local breads and goodies, delectable jams to spread on the breads, and sweet local honey, too.

Week 15 of the Old Rochester Farmers' Market brings you a plethora of nutritious, delicious and fresh local foods.  There will be a wide variety of produce--vegetables abound.  Corn, potatoes, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, peppers...whether you are making salsa or sauce, grilling or stir-frying all the essential ingredients you need will be there.  We look forward to seeing you at the market.

Don't forget your re-usable shopping bag.  There will be lots at the market to fill it up with!  And please remember that the market opens at 3:00, if you are early please feel free to browse but we ask you to hold your purchases until 3.  Waiting until 3:00 allows the farmers a chance to get fully set up.  Thank you.

September 4, 2012 Old Rochester Farmers' Market

Week 14 of the Old Rochester Farmers' Market is here. There is such an amazing bounty of delicious, fresh, vibrant and tasty vegetables and fruits available for you to bring home with you this week.  The market will be open from 3-7pm at the Old Rochester Regional Junior High School.  For a special treat this week, Aimee Bean and Molly Lombard, local massage therapists, are available for chair massages.  See you at the market!
