September 11, 2012 Old Rochester Farmers' Market

Week 15 of the Old Rochester Farmers' Market brings you a plethora of nutritious, delicious and fresh local foods.  There will be a wide variety of produce--vegetables abound.  Corn, potatoes, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, peppers...whether you are making salsa or sauce, grilling or stir-frying all the essential ingredients you need will be there.  We look forward to seeing you at the market.

Cervelli Farm
Participating this week:

Cervelli Farm, Rochester, MA Conventional
Apples are in at Cervelli Farm.  Scott will have crates of apples for you to choose from.  Applesauce, apple pie, apple crumble, apple bread--the possibilities are endless.  Making a batch of delicious applesauce and then freezing or canning it will ensure that you have some of that wonderful sweetness this winter.  This week, Scott will have available tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, summer squash, zucchini, cucumbers, and eggplant. Potatoes will store well for a long time.  Stocking up now will help you have some farm fresh flavor in the months to come.


Engelnook Farm, Rochester, MA Pesticide-Free
Eggs, Narragansett Creamery Cheeses, fresh dill and meats available for order can all be found at the Engelnook tent. This week Joanie is featuring garden fresh salsa, delicious pickles and sweet heat pepper jam.  Also available are pullets and layers to bring home for your own backyard chicken experience.

J.H. Beaulieu, Fairhaven, MA Hormone-Free
Humanely raised, hormone free meats are available from Beaulieu Farm.  Each week, Joe drives his trailer to the market with a variety of beef and pork cuts.  Stop on in to find out which cuts are available this week.

Skinny Dip Farm, Westport, MA Certified Organic
Hannah of Skinny Dip Farm reports, "This is the best time of year, when we still have summer crops, and also are starting to have fall crops!"  This week Hannah will bring along to the market IPM (low spray) apples.  Also their own organic watermelon, eggplant, peppers, summer squash, flowers, tomatoes, salad greens, onions.  New fall crops like potatoes, leeks, winter squash, turnips will be at this week's market, too.  Lots of good stuff!

Gail bakes all day on Tuesday to bring you a wonderful assortment of fresh bread, muffins, scones, delicious treats and prepared food items as well.

With a wide variety of fresh baked breads, you are sure to find a bread that suits your tastes.

Value Added Foods

Al's Backwood's Berrie Co., Plymouth, MA
Each week it is a new surprise over at Al's tent.  Al delights in creating new and visually appealing jams and jellies.  The apple pie, blueberry rhubarb and jalepeno pepper have been some of the favorites this season.  Do not be fooled into thinking these jams are only for toast--we've used them for fish, fruit spreads for pancakes or french toast, and the classic pb&j.  Each week Al also has raw, local honey, too.

Liv a Little, Rochester, MA
Chocolate Nachos made fresh in Rochester.  Varieties include Sunflower Seed, Toffee and Pecan.  Sarah's chocolate nachos are not your average dessert.

Using only natural ingredients these products are a dream.  The hand made neck and eye pillows are fabulous for providing yourself with some relaxation time.  Stop on in the Willow Grove tent to check it all out. 

Don't forget your re-usable shopping bag.  There will be lots at the market to fill it up with!  And please remember that the market opens at 3:00, if you are early please feel free to browse but we ask you to hold your purchases until 3.  Waiting until 3:00 allows the farmers a chance to get fully set up.  Thank you.
